Crawford For Congress Statement On Trump-Russia Scandal: Silence Is No Longer An Option

While the Trump-Russia scandal has unfolded over the last few months, Representative Jeff Fortenberry has said and done nothing. When he was asked by the Omaha World Herald to respond to the latest revelations, Fortenberry’s office said the Congressman had “no comment.”

It is now time for Fortenberry to put his country and his state first. The time for silence is over. The time is now for Fortenberry to do his job as a member of a powerful branch of government that has the ability to check and balance the executive branch.

Mr. Fortenberry needs to start out by condemning the collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians. In addition, Fortenberry needs to withhold all support for the Trump agenda unless Mr. Trump releases his complete tax returns and emails.

On top of that, the 1st District Congressman should refuse to support the Trump agenda in Congress until Trump publicly testifies under oath in public to the appropriate Congressional committee about his ties to Russia There is a precedent for presidential testimony to the Congress. Gerald Ford testified under oath to the Congress regarding the Nixon pardon.

The people of Nebraska CD01 don’t want or need a rubber stamp representing us in the U.S. House of Representatives. We need a representative who will put Nebraska first. That’s why I’m running for Congress.
