As we know, Representative Jeff Fortenberry is a long standing, reliable ally of the out of state gun lobby. In the past, he has voted to bar the CDC from studying the causes of gun violence and voted for legislation to make it easier for the mentally ill to have access to guns.
But that’s not all. Shortly after last year’s Las Vegas shootings, Fortenberry voted with the NRA for a concealed carry reciprocity bill that would run roughshod over states’ rights and weaken states’ gun law enforcement. This legislation would require states to recognize permits for the concealed carry of a handgun issued in other states.
What this this means is that states with strong protections for the public would have to honor permits from states with loose gun laws passed at the behest of the gun lobby. This bill — if it is passed by the Senate — would undermine police and law enforcement and increase violent crime rates.
As your member of Congress, I would stand up to the out of state special interests and support law enforcement. That’s why I’m running for Congress.
